Paris et moi de nuit

When I was in Paris, staying in the 1st near Les Halles, I often found myself wide awake late at night. Though I spent two weeks in Paris, I never fully adjusted to the time difference. So I adopted a routine to cope with my sleeplessness …

Taking the poetry of fellow Francophile Edna St. Vincent Millay, her biography by Nancy Milford and of course my camera I would set of in search of a cafe open late. At said cafe, I would enjoy un café avec sucre et crème alongside a nutella crepe. There, I would watch the City of Light go by. Occasionally, I would take a photograph of the light and the people and a near-empty Rue.

Books and camera still in hand, stomach full, I would set out again for the Seine. Wandering its banks at night, occasionally stopping to read a few stanzas of poetry  - it gave me a sense of peace I cannot explain. It was there, at night, I felt that Paris was my city.

Ha! Thank you! I tend to agree with all of you – I love the carousel photograph as well. It’s a happy little spot by La Tour Eiffel and I spent many an evening on those benches.

I’d say a major benefit of your (mostly) solo travel is getting a chance to do what you want, when you want (unless you wanted to be sleeping at night :) ). It’s nice – I’m finding that, the more my fiance and I travel, the more comfortable we are being honest about wanting some alone time in various locales. Having a travel buddy is fun, but time solo is still valuable. Gorgeous photos, as usual!!!

So so so true Cathleen! Solo travel suites me just fine. There were moments in Paris I very much wished I could be kissing someone on Pont Neuf but in general, I love solo travel. Thank you so much for the comment. XO

C’est magnifique! Is the a fisheye lens for the carousel photo? I really like the street shots with the floating red lights, it looks so surreal! Le sigh!

Kirsten, would you think me weird if I said that these photos brought tears to my eyes? Paris is probably my favourity city in the world; The one place I go to and feel so comfortable and at home. I miss being there so to have my favourite place at night combined with your amazing photography is just absolutely incredible. <3
