Getaway to the Beach with Expedia

I love working with brands that I already utilize or am familiar with and who I like (do you hear that Guinness …) Expedia is no exception. Having used their site for what feels like forever, when they approached me in January to represent them at Sundance, I was all too happy to say yes because the opportunity combined so many things I enjoy with a brand I was happy to continue supporting.

Now, I host #ExpChat on twitter a few times a month and it’s always a good time because Expedia really seems to know how to ask questions that stir the pot [in a good way] and provide a few hours of travel-themed fun for all involved.

Expedia’s latest project that I have enjoyed being a part of is their Summer Sale! Who doesn’t love a sale during the summer? Or any time! There’s a great Facebook app that’s all about getting away to one of my favorite places: the beach — and even if you can’t hop a plane this minute, it’s a virtual way to get a little bit of sand between your toes right now. You’ll even learn something new. I learned that Singapore is a destination I should consider and honestly, that was never even on my radar until I took their Beachgoer Quiz! It turns out that the beach is by far the favorite destination for the majority of the world’s travelers and the average beach getaway is one week long. That’s not enough in my opinion!

What else can you learn? Lots of things, with their Flip Flop Report:

FriFotos: Weather

This week, FriFotos is all about weather. I have a shocking lack of archives of images that reflect weather. When I saw the theme announcement I thought – hurricanes, tropical rain, snowpocalypse in NYC. I don’t really have those photographs. So, enjoy these instead. I tried to capture what the weather is really like during the different seasons in these four, very different places.

I Blame the Bahamas

Growing up in Vermont and Michigan, swimming pools were not my childhood summer playground – rather Lake Champlain and The Great Lakes were the waters I found relief from humidity in. I remember a dip in Lake Superior so cold that even with temperatures causing heat waves to rise from the pavement, it felt like automatic hypothermia set in. What I remember most about the lakes I grew up swimming in is that clean as they were for freshwater – I could never see the bottom, never know a fish was approaching till I felt something slimy brush my leg and I never wanted to learn to snorkel because what was there to see? However, we love what we know. So I did love Champlain and I still have a fondness in my heart for The Great Lakes.

The problem is, I can’t enjoy swimming in them anymore.

Not, after this:

I blame the Bahamas for making me a sissy. After you’ve jetted across turquoise waters in a speed boat, swam in the waters off your own private island, received a kiss from a dolpin and snorkeled while fish swarm around you like larger, more colorful bubbles; well, you’re ruined for lake waters!
