I am SOOOO excited that FINALLY the October of issue of AFAR Magazine is on newsstands and with it, the print piece that I’ve been working on since my 7×7 trip to Belize in May of this year. This is how excited I am: I am giving away two subscriptions to the magazine in celebration!!!!!!

Also, I am hosting a chat with Belize Tourism and AFAR Magazine on Facebook next week: Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 3 PM EST. Anyone can join in, the chat will take place on AFAR’s Facebook page here.
You can read my story about exploring the 7 regions of Belize in the October issue of AFAR beginning on page 21 and you can research the country for yourself through my favorite experiences in this Wanderlist

or by viewing all 49 of the highlights I shared about my experience online here.
But I know you really just want to enter the giveaway, right?;)

As a digital nomad, the digital subscription is of course my go-to! I’d love to check out Belize and do some SCUBA or kayaking there, I’ve heard the waterways are super nice?

    • http://www.aviatorsandacamera.com/ Kirsten Alana

A digital subscription will definitely come in handy for you, Stephen! When you get to Belize you are going to LOVE the SCUBA opportunities. They are plentiful since the country has the largest reef system in the Northern Hemisphere. I definitely recommend Splash dive center in Placencia. They were terrific and really helped me with a fear of diving (though I love to snorkel). There are a lot of opportunities for kayaking as well if you’re into that.

      • Stephen Lioy

Trying to get more into kayaking after a few cool excursions in SE Asia and Oceania. From the way you make it sound, Belize would be a solid spot to explore it a little more!

        • http://www.aviatorsandacamera.com/ Kirsten Alana

I definitely think it would be. Arguably I am biased but if you search on AFAR or any other travel site, it’s pretty clear that one of the great things about the country are the water and adventure sports and general exploration opportunities.

I’d love a print subscription. I’ve never been to Belize but hope to go diving and travel there someday. I have never done any night dives and think Belize would be a great place to do that. I am a big fan of AFAR and love that they are based in San Francisco.

    • http://www.aviatorsandacamera.com/ Kirsten Alana

Glad you’re a fan of AFAR, Stephanie! That’s great to hear :) I didn’t do a night dive but I did see that advertised while I was in Belize and as the reef is so extensive and the creatures under the sea so incredible in Belize, I think it would be a great place to do that. I hope you get to visit sooner rather than later.

I’d want the digital subscription. I haven’t read the AFAR agazine, but I have read quite a few articles on the website. I’d most be looking forward to reading about Belize. I haven’t been there, but a couple years ago my mom went to Belize with some friends and loved it. Actually the idea of going to Belize has been floated around my friends as a possible destination for our 30th birthday trip. If I could swim I’d be looking forward to snorkeling or scuba diving, but I would be looking forward to seeing the Mayan ruins in Lamanai.

    • http://www.aviatorsandacamera.com/ Kirsten Alana

Thanks for entering, Alouise! I hope you are able to read the print magazine soon, it’s so lovely. The online version is wonderful as well and I am proud to contribute to it. I do think Belize would be a great place for a 30th birthday trip, it’s a place I want to return with my girlfriends for a ladies trip and I want to return with my boyfriend. There are so many options from romantic to adventure to relaxation to luxury to off the beaten path…. (And I LOVED the Maya ruins at Lamanai.)

CONGRATULATIONS Alouise!!! You won the digital subscription. Check your email :)

Thanks Kristen. I just checked my email. Can’t wait to read AFAR.

  • Abbie Roden

I would love the print subscription. I went to Belize this May and it was amazing. Our favorite place was Rendezvous Caye – a tiny tiny island that we camped on for a night while on a 3-day sailing tour with Ragamuffin. One of my favorite trips I’ve had! And our favorite spots to eat were Enjoy and the Budgetman street food! So good.

    • http://www.aviatorsandacamera.com/ Kirsten Alana

Abbie, that sounds amazing!! I already want to return to Belize and I must add Rendezvous Caye + a sailing tour with Ragamuffin to my list of things to do next time.

Those photos are simply amazing! Congratulations!

    • http://www.aviatorsandacamera.com/ Kirsten Alana

      Thanks, Polly!

  • http://www.belizeadventure.ca/ Lorenzo Gonzalez

I absolutely love all the photos you took during your Belize trip!

    • http://www.aviatorsandacamera.com/ Kirsten Alana

Thank you, Lorenzo!! And did you catch my mention of you in the print article??

  • Taylor Michie

Fantastic photos (as usual). You’ve totally stirred up my Belize wanderlust. Congratulations on your print debut!

    • http://www.aviatorsandacamera.com/ Kirsten Alana

      Thank you so much, Taylor!!

  • Jen Pollack Bianco

Congrats! Can’t wait to see you’re images printed on heavy stock!

    • http://www.aviatorsandacamera.com/ Kirsten Alana

Haha!! Thanks Jen :) AFAR really is printed on great paper.

  • Simone Anne

    Awesome! That’s so exciting. Congrats!

  • Simone Anne

    1. Print. 2. Have you been to Belize before? Nope! But it sounds amazing! If you haven’t been to Belize, where would you most like to visit in the country? I’d love to hike through the Mayan Mountains! If you’ve read AFAR before, what’s your favorite article? I don’t know that I read many of the articles but I really love the photos & the paper quality is awesome. :)

    • http://www.aviatorsandacamera.com/ Kirsten Alana

I hope you are able to go to Belize, Simone. It really is amazing. That’s a great word for it. There aren’t really Maya mountains (that I know of at least)…but there are many Maya ruins to explore and my favorite was Lamanai. (And you’re right, the paper quality for AFAR really is terrific!)

      • Simone Anne

It really is, right? :) There are! They aren’t bit mountains, just pretty foothills, but they’re great for hiking & full of ruins & cool things to see. :)

        • http://www.aviatorsandacamera.com/ Kirsten Alana

How interesting! In all my time in the country, I never heard of the Maya Mountains. But they sound lovely.

I’d love a print subscription to AFAR. I’ve not been to Belize, or anywhere in Central America, for that matter…but I’d love to pay a visit and soak up the colors and flavors that come across so vividly in your pictures! Can I dream of reading (or how about researching and writing?) a piece on the Pitcairn Islands? My great aunt and uncle sailed around the world and visited that spec on the map waaay back in the day. I’ve been intrigued since I was a girl and first heard my mom share their stories…

    • http://www.aviatorsandacamera.com/ Kirsten Alana

CONGRATULATIONS Bethany!!! You won the print subscription. Check your email :) And I really adore your idea about the Pitcairn Islands. I hope you do get the chance to research and one day write a story about it for the magazine. I would very much enjoy reading that. If you get to write it, maybe I could even go along and photograph it!! You’ve definitely got me intrigued.

Belize has been high on our list! The diving alone makes a trip out there worth it! Looks plenty of more great reasons to go.

    • http://www.aviatorsandacamera.com/ Kirsten Alana

I haven’t been diving all over the world but just from the little bit I was able to experience while I was in Belize, it’s definitely up there firmly with the experiences I had in Indonesia, Barbados, Bahamas and elsewhere. I didn’t get to dive the Great Barrier Reef when I was there but I still heard divers in Belize mentioning that reef in the same conversation as Great Barrier. I hope you are able to visit Belize.
